Luxembourg | October 08, 2026 – Artec 3D, a world-renowned developer and manufacturer of professional 3D hardware and software, has officially launched Artec Twins, a new platform for working with massive 3D environments at a previously impossible scale and speed.
Artec 3D has spent twenty years building precision into 3D capture. Artec Twins applies this approach at a far larger scale with a single platform for processing and rendering billion-point environments in real time. Artec Twins turns raw data into a measurable, presentable digital twin – and lets users put it to work immediately. With Artec Twins, the world is your dataset.
Initially conceived for Artec Jet, a recently launched mobile, SLAM-based LiDAR scanner for mapping at scale, Artec Twins now reaches beyond any one device. The software also builds on the solid foundations laid by Artec Studio, expanding its toolset with Gaussian Splatting, built-in analysis tools, and specialized algorithms designed for working with the largest 3D datasets.
Artec Twins: Capture at any scale
Built to work at a landscape scale, Artec Twins processes and renders everything from construction sites to cities with kilometers of infrastructure, including open terrain, property interiors, and heritage landmarks, all captured down to the last detail. Different scales call for different devices – and Artec Twins works with whichever technology is best suited to the job.
The software supports multi-source data fusion, so data can be imported from any Artec 3D scanner, as well as smartphones, drones, and even satellites. Practically, this means that satellite, plane, or Artec Jet data can be used for capturing wider scenes, the static Artec Ray II for greater detail, and the wireless handheld Artec Leo for achieving sub-millimeter accuracy.
The result: a single, full-scale dataset with high accuracy where it matters, which can easily be exported from Artec Twins to third-party software in industry-standard formats for next steps.
“Most existing solutions ask users to compromise,” explained Art Yukhin, President & CEO of Artec 3D. “Either they support handheld 3D scanning, SLAM-LiDAR, or aerial capture – but not all of the above. Many also require dedicated workstations or third-party tools. Artec Twins offers a complete solution for handling incredibly large datasets, without any trade-offs in speed, accuracy or scale.”
High-fidelity, real-time rendering
Artec Twins is powered by breakthrough algorithms that make full use of available computing power. The software renders point clouds containing billions of points in real time at up to 200 frames per second, without any decimation or latency. Environments of 100 km2 or more stay fully interactive, so you can pan, fly through, and inspect entire sites as if they were miniature scale models.
Artec 3D’s focus remains on geometry. While accuracy and visualization go hand in hand in every Artec Twins project, precision leads the way because in surveying, infrastructure, and public safety, measurements have to be right before anything else matters. Artec Twins carries the dimensional integrity Artec is known for – with stunning visuals as an added benefit.
Photorealistic Gaussian Splatting
Artec Twins brings Gaussian Splatting to the Artec 3D software range for the first time. The technique generates splats and renders them into lifelike scenes all by itself, so no external software is required. By capturing translucent and reflective surfaces that defy traditional reconstruction and filling in detail other methods miss, it builds a more complete, higher-quality model.
Great for client or stakeholder presentations, these incredibly lifelike Gaussian Splatting models can be generated using either Artec Jet LiDAR data or photos and videos, whichever suits your project needs.
Artec’s new “tri-lingual” software
In Artec Twins, it’s possible to work with point clouds, meshes, and Gaussian Splats, toggling between precision and photorealism as required. This approach allows users to switch between precision measurement and immersive, ultra-realistic, artistic site representations – using the same data, in one platform.
Color, height, normals, and intensity overlays reveal details that would otherwise stay hidden. First-person navigation also lets you explore sites virtually from the inside for remote walkthroughs, inspection, and presenting to project partners.
Data-to-insight in one platform
Not only does Artec Twins visualize large datasets beautifully, it turns raw data into actionable insights. Users can create distance maps between point clouds, mesh, or CAD references, take cross-sections, calculate volumes, fit primitives, and measure fused models. Georeferencing and ground control point support also place whole datasets in real-world coordinates.
Comparing as-built scans against design files helps catch deviations, verify tolerances, and monitor change over time, so users can identify errors and avoid costly rework. For most projects, Artec Twins’ analytical capabilities are enough on their own, with no additional software required. Processing also takes place locally, so your data stays secure. Exports can be shared as E57, LAS/LAZ, and common mesh or Gaussian Splatting file formats.
“We’ve built a market-leading engine that handles the largest point clouds imaginable without decimation or latency. It’s geometry first, so the measurement is always right, and beside it, we offer superior visualization for presentation, drawn from the very same data,” added Yukhin. “That’s the Artec advantage: a digital twin you can both measure and present.”
Artec Studio, Artec 3D’s flagship all-in-one software for data capture and processing, continues to be the home of Artec professional 3D scanning. Artec Twins offers a purpose-built solution for working at scale for monitoring, inspection, and surveying across AEC, mining, infrastructure, and public safety – all those who are building tomorrow’s record of the physical world.
