Direct Dimensions has announced plans to host a free, hands-on 3D scanning event in Manhattan in just over a week’s time.
Attendees will be treated to practical sessions on how to get the most out of industry-leading Artec 3D scanners and Geomagic reverse engineering and inspection software. They’ll also get the chance to ask experts how best to integrate the technology into existing workflows.
Aimed at engineers, manufacturers, designers, and researchers, this live demo session is set to feature no fewer than seven Artec 3D devices for comparison. It’s also allowed for visitors to bring their own parts, so they can get a clearer idea of how 3D scanning would be able to cope with geometries they work with day-to-day.
“We want to make it easier for professionals to experience these technologies firsthand and understand how they can be applied to their own projects,” said Michael Raphael, Founder and CEO of Direct Dimensions. “By bringing our team and a range of scanning solutions directly to New York City, we can help attendees explore their options, ask questions, and make more informed decisions about investing in 3D scanning.”

All Artec 3D scanners under one roof
The technology on show will be capable of capturing everything from small parts to entire sites. At the smaller end is the Artec Micro II, an automated desktop scanner for small components. Artec Spider II captures fine detail and complex geometry by hand, while Artec Leo is a wireless handheld with a built-in display, so no laptop is needed.
Artec Point applies handheld laser scanning to inspection and reverse engineering, while larger subjects such as buildings fall to the Artec Ray II, a long-range laser scanner that, paired with Leo, has proven effective in accident reconstruction.
Two devices are recent additions. Launched in April, Artec Jet is a SLAM-based mobile LiDAR system with a sensing range of 0.5 to 300 m. It can be handheld or drone-mounted and maps without GPS. Artec Neo, which debuted at IMTS in September, is a wireless handheld scanner with 0.025 mm metrology-grade accuracy.
Every unit ships with its own calibration certificate, as reported in 3D Mag’s launch coverage, and the scanner has since been named in the DEVELOP3D ‘D3D 30’ for 2026.
With Geomagic on board, attendees will also see how scan data feeds into reverse engineering, inspection and product development.
