FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe and IRCAD France have partnered to advance surgical education through innovative ultrasound technology and 3D surgical planning tools. At the core of the initiative is FUJIFILM’s Synapse® 3D software, on a mission to enable doctors to rehearse procedures on digital twins of organs before performing surgeries on real patients.
The collaboration aims to make non-invasive surgery more accessible across the globe, combining FUJIFILM’s 90 years of imaging expertise with IRCAD’s international reputation in surgical training and research. “This collaboration with Fujifilm marks a major step forward, not only in the training of surgeons and interventional radiologists, but also in the development of ambitious joint research and innovation projects,” founding president of IRCAD, professor Jacques Marescaux, said in a statement. “Such as the 3D planning software system, which will enable thousands of surgeons trained at IRCAD to rehearse procedures on a digital twin of the organ before operating on real patients.”
The project will help design new educational programs focused on intraoperative ultrasound and image-guided solutions, accessible both in-person and online. By integrating cutting-edge visualization and 3D planning into training, the initiative will hone surgical skills of medical professionals, enhance safety, and keep clinicians updated with the latest techniques.
“As the field of surgery is constantly evolving with new technologies and techniques, we look forward to developing new solutions in the ultrasound field together, using the shared knowledge and expertise between FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe and IRCAD,” said Takemasa Kojima, managing director of FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe.
With real-time imaging, artificial intelligence, and non-invasive approaches in the spotlight, the FUJIFILM–IRCAD partnership is likely to set new standards in surgical education – offering 3D-enabled tools that both improve patient outcomes and advance the next generation of surgical research.
